Another week of blogging

Here are just a few of the great posts from the Scientology Blogosphere that were written this week:
  • Giveaway! How To Use Dianetics DVD! - A great offer!  Win a "How to use Dianetics" DVD by posting a comment to the Life Repairman site.  See the link above for full details.  I can tell you from personal experience that Dianetics counseling is phenomenal.  The gains I've had from it have been tremendous.
  • New Scientology Volunteer Ministers Center Opens in Vienna - Good news for Austrians.  The largest independent relief organization in the world has opened a center in the beautiful Austrian capital, Vienna.  The Volunteer Ministers have been awarded citations for their relief work in 119 severe disasters, they also provide disaster response training to police, fire fighters, medical professionals, Red Cross and members of other volunteer organizations. They specialize in restoring calm, organizing the resources available, and providing maximum help to relief workers and victims of disaster. (And that includes helping people with the small, every day disasters of life.)
  • How to get links to your website - Some tips on making your website or blog better known from an expert on the subject, our very own Jere Matlock!
  • Scientology Volunteer Ministers in Zambia—Helping Those who Help in Times of Disaster - The Volunteer Ministers African Good Will Tour has been busy giving Zambian police officers disaster relief training.
  • Prozac (Fluoxetine) Side Effects and Withdrawal Symptoms and Zyprexa Lawsuit Settlements - If you need to inform anyone of the dangers of prozac then the first article is the one to send them to.  If you want to highlight the dangers of psych drugs and the unethical behavior of the pharmaceutical companies, then the second article is the one.  The "Side Effects of Antidepressants and Antipsychotics" blog pumps out well written and informative articles on, not just drugs, but many other aspects of the psychiatric field.  I recommend you bookmark it and link to it on your blog.
  • The Other Triangle and The Mind and KRC - Many people know about the ARC triangle in Scientology, but what is the second triangle?  And what does it have to do with the mind?  The questions are answered in these articles.
  • Marriage Quotes...and a Few Personal Thoughts, Part 1 - Stan Dubin has a couple of excellent blogs.  Here is a great article from his Marriage Success blog.
  • A Note about Clear - What is a Clear?  An informative article from Julia.
  • Cost of Scientology Services - Again - An answer to some questions about Scientology donations.  Maybe you'd like to add your two cents?
There's lots more where those came from.  Check out the Scientology Blogosphere.

This week on the Scientology Blogosphere

Here are some great articles from the blogs of Scientologists that were written this week:
  • Get a Better ROI on Life - Desi tells us how Scientology Auditing is helping her to handle things that have been problems for many years. "It's practical magic. It works easily and well and better than anything else for the same reason that aqueducts worked better than hollow logs - better technology means better results. I use it for the same reason we use computers and not an abacus - once you figure out the science behind better tools, you're never going back to the old way to do things. In my book, Scientology is better tools for living based on better and more organized data."
  • It takes smarts to think for yourself - Mickey is an Italian teenager who does not live a cloistered life. She lives in the U.S. and spends summers in Italy. Her world is filled with activity and friends- many of them Scientologists, many of them not. Lets hear her viewpoints.
  • What we don't believe - It is quite amazing the weird ideas people get about what Scientologists do and don't believe. Here are a some I've encountered.
  • Interview With Actress Cassandra Hepburn - The lovely and talented actress and Scientologist Cassandra Hepburn has a new movie coming out.
  • Young Scientologists; Old Scientologists - In case you hadn’t guessed it, Scientologists are young and old, babies and grandfathers. There are first generation Scientologists, second generation Scientologists, third generation Scientologists and even fourth generation Scientologists. Some Scientologists are fat, some are thin. Some are tall, some are small. Some are European, some are Malaysian. There are Scientologists in Alaska and there are Scientologists in New Zealand and South Africa and elsewhere. Scientologists are here and they are there. They can be anywhere. You work with them, you see them, you listen to their music, you watch them in movies, you read their books, you go to school with them, you see their art, you play with them, you learn from them, you walk past them on the street … and so the world continues to turn.
  • Antidepressants and Antipsychotics being Prescribed for Treatment without Scientific Proof of Chemical Imbalance - Psychiatrists have yet to conclusively prove that a single mental illness has a biological or physical cause, or a genetic origin. Psychiatry has yet to develop a single physical test that can determine that an individual actually has a particular mental illness. Indeed, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders uses behavior, not physical symptoms, to diagnose mental illness, and it lacks both scientific reliability and validity.
  • European Scientology Volunteer Ministers Behind the Scenes at the EU Cup - Although more than a million fans converged on Austria for the EU Cup last month the entire event came off without incident. Behind the scenes of this and every huge international sports event are the men and women who see to the safety of those attending and handle any emergencies that arise—emergencies that could easily become catastrophes if not cared for quickly and competently.
  • Free Schools Using Study Technology of L. Ron Hubbard Give Hope to Kolkata Children - Bibha Kumari, Sohan Das, Pintu Das and Mukesh Paswan are excellent students. In fact, they are the best students at their school. But four years ago not only had they never seen the inside of a schoolroom but they never dreamed they would be able to do so. Now they have the opportunity to get real education and to truly transform their lives.
There are plenty more where that came from.  Subscribe to the Scientology Blogosphere so you can keep up with all the great news and views.

David Miscavige Briefing at Maiden Voyage

I attended the Maiden Voyage Event last weekend and it was incredible to see how much we've accomplished in the past year.

As usual it was a total treat seeing David Miscavige at the podium. What in incredible speaker. And he certainly has a way of presenting the news that keeps you riveted to every word he says.

I was so excited to see the new ideal org buildings.

And I, for one, am winning so much on studying the Basic Scientology Books and Lectures that it was a treat seeing the success stories of other people who are winning too.

I love the events David Miscavige emcees. I'm sure the rest of the summer of events will be incredible too.

Wins from Scientology and Dianetics Books

I've been watching some of the videos of people who have completed the study of the basic Scientology and Dianetics books of L. Ron Hubbard. These have been so inspiration I've doubled the amount of time I'm putting into studying Scientology, and I'm really glad I made that decision as the wins are incredible.

I can really understand why David Miscavige put so much attention onto getting these materials into the hands of every Scientologist and seeing to it that they are broadly available to everyone.

Dianetics Videos

The Dianetics site has been transformed into video, and I spent some more time on it this week, listening to some of the success stories.

It's really heartening to hear the kinds of wins and life changing experiences people have from reading the Dianetics book and getting Dianetics counseling. L. Ron Hubbard was such a genius, and SO ahead of his time!

And I'm really having tremendous wins myself studying these books. I am so greatful that David Miscavige had all this work done that makes these books so much easier to read and understand!

Blogging for Human Rights - Today is the day!

May 15th is Blogging for Human Rights Day!

How important are human rights? Well, without them you can be imprisoned without trial, you can have your property taken away, you can be enslaved, you can be discriminated against because of your race or beliefs, you can be tried in a secret court, you can have your letters opened and your phone tapped without due process, you can be arrested for expressing your opinion, you can be tortured and more.

Why should you learn about human rights? It is vital to know what your rights are, otherwise they will be taken away from you and all the abuses of the centuries, abuses that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was written to stop, will come about again.

Where can I learn about my human rights?
- Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Abridged Version)
- Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Full Version)

What organizations should I know about and help?
- United Nations
- Youth For Human Rights
- Human Rights Watch (formerly Helsinki Watch)
- Amnesty International
- UNICEF

Dianetics Videos Online

Thanks Grahame. I checked it out and this site smokes!

It makes so much sense to have a Dianetics video channel because Dianetics is, itself, a best-seller, and not everyone associates Dianetics with Scientology at first.

What a great way to introduce people to the subject!

New Dianetics Video Channel

Dianetics
In March the new Scientology Video Channel was launched, in April the Scientology Video Channel on YouTube was launched and now in May, on the Anniversary of the publication of the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, comes the launch of the Dianetics Video Channel!

The videos are great and just try out that cool compass in the bottom right of the page (it's a neat navigation menu).

Volunteers Needed in Myanmar

Myanmar
I just received this message from the Disaster Response Director at the International Scientology Volunteer Ministers Center. I'm posting it here for anyone who can help.

----------- The Message ----------
On Sunday, Cyclone Nargis hit the nation of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma, a country between India and China) and killed in excess of 25,000 people so far. The original report from the military government of Myanmar was a death toll in the hundreds, but there was a belated admission that the cyclone had killed at least 30 times this figure - with 10,000 perished in just one city, and an estimated total of over 100,000 casualties. The devastation of the area has left several hundred thousand people without shelter and clean water.

The people of this area need our help urgently. A whole team of Volunteer Ministers need to go to Myanmar to start bringing order and delivering the miracles of Volunteer Minister technology.

We cannot just stand back and watch. The situation requires decisive action NOW. We need responsible Volunteer Ministers to bring hope to these people.

SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT!

“A volunteer minister does not shut his eyes to the pain, evil and injustice of existence. Rather, he is trained to handle these things and help others achieve relief from them and new personal strength as well.” — L. Ron Hubbard

At least 250 people are needed in Myanmar on an immediate basis. Please contact the Disaster Response Director at the International VM Office at 1-323-960-1949 or via e-mail. You can also contact Sei Broadhurst or Donovan Reed at the Continental VM Office in Australia at 011-612-9264-7955.

If you are not already trained as a Volunteer Minister, we will train you on the ground, or you can learn how to help on one of our on-line training courses, available for no charge on the Volunteer Ministers website.

If you cannot go but still want to help, you can make a donation to directly fund these disaster relief activities and contribute in that way in ensuring others can go.

Please send this to everyone you know!

Best,
Stephanie Rinder

Scientology Channel on YouTube

YouTube is such an interesting phenomenon. A lot of people post some really clever things, and it allows anyone to communicate to a huge network of people with similar interests, tastes, etc. This takes communication out of the hands of a small "elite" heirarchy and permist anyone to communicate.

There's a lot of trash, nonesense, and hate.

But I'm totally thrilled there's now a Scientology channel on YouTube. And I love the quality of the videos and the selection. There is about 3 hours-worth of clips.

I have a lot of friends who ask me what Scientology is. It's hard to describe something as rich and encompassing as Scientology. It's so much easier to show it. And that's exactly what I can do now, with this channel.

So if you are here because you're interested in finding out what a Scientologist has to say about Scientology, here's what I say. Take the time to watch the full selection of clips about Scientology on the YouTube Church of Scientology channel. It takes a bit of time, but you can really get a feel for our religion, what we're like, what we do, what we believe. And that's really what you need, to answer that question.

Great Quote on tolerance

Although it is not a quote from a Scientologist, this quote from Helen Keller very much aligns with the views of Scientologists and with the strong interest in Human Rights that members of the Church of Scientology have.

So don't forget that May 15th is the day when bloggers all over the world will be Blogging for Human Rights. Make sure you join in and promote Human Rights for All!

Wow! What Wins

Go to this page, The Basics Wins, and watch the video. It's really cool! If you are new to Scientology there will be some words you may not be familiar with, so here are a few definitions to help:

Org - short for "Organization" which means a Scientology Church
Cognition - A realization about life
Postulate - a conclusion, decision or resolution made by the individual himself to resolve a problem or to set a pattern for the future or to nullify a pattern of the past. For example, a person says, “I like Model T Fords. I am never going to drive another car.” Years later, no longer consciously aware of this postulate, he will wonder why he is having so much trouble with his Buick; it’s because he has made an earlier promise to himself. In order to change he has to change that postulate.
Grade 4 - A Scientology Auditing level that helps a person move out of fixed conditions.

How to Achieve Your Dreams

We all have dreams that we want to make real. It could be an idea for a project as small as trimming the bushes around your garden or as big as changing your career. The burning question is how do you go about making it happen?

The answer lies in Targets and Goals. You could write out a simple list of targets to achieve your goal and in some cases this will be enough, but what do you do to predict possible problems and plan to overcome them? What if your plan conflicts with other your goals?

The Scientology Handbook contains an entire chapter on Targets and Goals. The chapter answers the questions asked here and a lot more besides. You can read some of the articles from the chapter here at Planning for the Future.

One of the coolest things I found in the Scientology Handbook is the "Administrative Scale". The name sounds kinda dry, but the concept described is mind boggling! This little puppy is the tool you need to get your life, your business or whatever under control and to get every part of it going in the same direction. Can you imagine what it would be like if you knew that everything you did was headed towards achieving your goals? Well, the Administrative Scale (Admin Scale to his friends :) ) is the way to go!

Have fun with your planning and success in achieving your dreams!

Drug-Free Marshals 1st Up at Spring Training Baseball Game

Drug Free Marshals
Here is a cool news item that I've been meaning to post about since I first saw it.

The Drug Free Marshals is a program to help kids stay off drugs. The idea is to use peer pressure to keep kids off drugs rather than the usual scenario of the peer pressure persuading them to take drugs. The program has been running since 1993 when it was created by the Church of Scientology. In the 15 years since it has signed up 4 million Marshals.

The program was recently featured at a Spring Training Baseball Game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Scientology Blogosphere - Posts of the Week - Part 1

There have been so many good posts this week that I am breaking the list into parts.

Four Words You Need to Know to Understand Scientology - This article will give you a full conceptual understanding of some words you really need to know if you want to understand the subject.

Prescription for Violence - psych drugs causing school shootings - What is the relationship between psychiatric drugs like prozac, zoloft, ritalin, etc. and school shootings?

Scientology is recognized as a religion all over the world - Data on religions recognition by governments and courts all over the world. The list of recognitions is huge.

Speaking up about Seroxat - What happened to a guy who had the guts to tell the truth about Seroxat (Paxil) on his blog? There is also a great video showing the lies that were told about the safety of Seroxat.

Another Dumb Hypothetical Disorder... - It turns out that you are crazy and need expensive medication - and you thought you were just using a feature of your cell phone.

Racing for Human Rights - A racing team promotes human rights.

From Dianetics - A personal win from reading the book Dianetics.

Site of the week:
CESNUR: Scientology - The Center for Studies on New Religions maintains a page of news items and articles by religious scholars. Fascinating reading about Scientology from an unbiased and independent 3rd party. CESNUR doesn't take sides, they just report the facts.

Scientology: How do I get started?

Here is a link to a great page from the Church of Scientology of Toronto of simple things you can do to get started in Scientology: Scientology: How do I get started?. It includes data on free introductory services, books and introductory courses.

Actually the entire site is a great introduction to the subject. Just browse around and you'll find all sorts of interesting information, including the Aims of Scientology by L. Ron Hubbard (see if you can find it on the site!).

From Dianetics

I'm reading Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health again and I came across this great quote:
All factors necessary to the resolution of a science of the mind were found within the finite universe and were discovered, sensed, measured and experienced, and became scientific truth. The finite universe contains Time, Space, Energy and Life. No other factors were found necessary in the equation. - L. Ron Hubbard
That really makes clear the down-to-earth foundations that underlie the technology of Dianetics and Scientology. To use them and to see them work requires only accurate application and then a pair of eyes to view the results.

Scientology - Basic Principles

You can quickly discover what some of the basic principles of the Scientology Religion are by watching a couple of videos. Start with this very short one: The Basic Principles of Scientology and then watch the five that come after it.

I think it is always important to know what something is before forming an opinion about it.

Scientology – What Got Me Interested

There were several things that got me interested in Scientology, but one of the main ones was that no one shoved their ideas down my throat. I really liked that because from Sunday School to University, it seemed I was supposed to just believe what I was told. What the Bible said was true! What the physics book said was true! I found that no one was very interested in my opinion or in my deciding for myself if what was being said were true or not.

So on the first day of my communications course I read something I didn't believe and I said to the course supervisor, "I can't believe this!" and he said, "That's okay. Make sure you understand it, then apply it and see for yourself if it is true or not." That was a surprise. It was the first time anyone had ever said that to me. That impressed me and in the 30 years since, I have continued to be impressed by the fact that I hear that same sentence again and again.

Recently I was studying the book, "Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought" and I came across this from L. Ron Hubbard:

In Scientology we have very little to do with forcing people to make conclusions. An individual can experience these things [Scientology beliefs] for himself. And unless he can do so, no one expects him to accept them.

That's how we operate in Scientology!

How did you get into Scientology?

Here is a great article that answers a question many people ask: How did you get into Scientology?

Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health was the first book I read on the subject and was what got me interested.

Scientology Video Site

Scientology.org has just been transformed into a multi-language video channel with hours of videos about every aspect of the Scientology religion.

These video clips are anywhere from 30 seconds to 6 or 8 minutes long and all together they present such a clear picture of the Scientology religion.

So far, my favorite is the clip of Scientologists talking about Scientology (it's under the section on Beliefs and Practices).

I am thrilled to have something so clear and comprehensive I can send anyone to, to find out about Scientology!

The Discoveries of Dianetics, by L. Ron Hubbard

L. Ron Hubbard
I just found a great article by L. Ron Hubbard that is online! It is called "The Discoveries of Dianetics." Dianetics was the forerunner of Scientology. The discoveries made in Dianetics and then its practice led to further discoveries that ended up with the spiritual technology of Scientology.

Here is a quote from the article:

Accumulated physical pain and loss brings about a reduction of consciousness, a reduction of physical health and a reduction of the will to live to a point where the organism actively, if often slyly, seeks death.

Erase or nullify the physical pain, the losses of a lifetime, and vitality returns.

The vitality of living, of seeking higher levels of survival, is life itself.

Scientology Books In Libraries

Over the last several years there has been a major campaign within the Church to put Scientology books into libraries all over the world. (Such as here in the Boston Public Library System). A great deal of time and effort has gone into this. So if you want to find out about Scientology, go to your local library and check out a book such as

Problems of Work
Scientology: A New Slant On Life
Self Analysis
Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought
Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health

These are all great beginning books. I've put them into a rough order of how easy they are to read. This is totally a personal estimate, so if anyone thinks the order should be different you can post your own sequence in a comment.

What is Scientology?

Julia attempts to answer the question "What is Scientology?" on her blog: So...What is Scientology?

The idea that Scientology is an "applied religious philosophy" is sometimes hard for people in the western world to grasp, because the dominant religions in the west are based on belief rather than practical application that leads to a specific result. (Not that there is anything wrong with belief.)

Scientology is a "practical" religion. The knowledge it contains is for use in everyday life. Probably the best place to see this is in the Scientology Handbook, which contains a ton of practical methods that are easy to understand and use. Check it out.

Adaptive Reuse - The New Church of Scientology of Boston Building

The new Church of Scientology of Boston Building
The Church of Scientology of Boston has purchased a really cool Boston landmark as its new headquarters. The Alexandra Hotel was first opened in 1875 and the Church plans to fully restore it to its former glory.

The type of renovation work the Church will do is known as "adaptive reuse," which means retaining the classic features of historic buildings while converting them for new uses. I guess you could call it "recycling" but on a grand scale.

DDB awards Scientology founder, anti-drug crusader

The Government of the Philippines has given an award to L. Ron Hubbard for his work in the field of Drug Education.

The Philippine Government press release says:
Secretary Anselmo S. Avenido Jr., Dangerous Drugs Board Chairman, recognized Hubbard for his humanitarian commitment and as the "source of information and wellspring of inspiration". He further stressed that the DDB is sincerely grateful for his contributions in the fields of drug education and rehabilitation, and for being someone who did not stop at being mere anti-drug advocate but instead came up with a concrete technology to counter the ill effects of drugs.
You can read the entire story here: DDB awards Scientology founder, anti-drug crusader

Drug Free Marshals Celebrate their 15th Year

I don't think anyone would argue against the fact that drugs have destroyed many, many lives. If we only listed famous people who have died or had their careers destroyed by drugs that alone would fill pages and pages: Kurt Cobain, Jimmy Hendrix, River Phoenix, etc., etc. If you want to learn the facts about drugs and what they do to a person then the Foundation for a Drug Free World is the place to go. It have extensive information on all the current "recreational" drugs and real life stories about drug abuse.

On the positive side, the Drug Free Marshals program is now in its 15th year and has helped educate and get agreement to not take drugs from over 5 million youth and adults. This year they plan to expand the program: Calling All Drug-Free Marshals.

Great Article by L. Ron Hubbard

Here is an article by L. Ron Hubbard about what we do in Scientology. As you read it I recommend you click on the links so you make sure you understand the terms that are being used, for example Reactive Mind is an important concept to understand and when it is first mentioned there is a link to the definition. Church Responds to Biography

Ever wondered about truth? It seems some people in the media don't care about it; they care about whatever will make them a quick buck. Andrew Morton is one such. His libelous biography of Tom Cruise isn't being published in his own country (Britain) because they have libel laws with teeth over there. Unfortunately the libel laws in the USA had their teeth removed in the late 1950's and ever since unscrupulous people have been getting away with publishing scandalous lies about people in the public eye.

So if you, as a member of the public, are interested in the truth, read about the Tom Cruise Biography by Andrew Norton.

Religious Recognition in Portugal

Hard on the heals of religious recognition for the Church of Scientology Spain, comes religious recognition in Portugal.

What is the Sea Organization?

The Sea Organization is a religious order within the Scientology religion. A religious order is a subdivision of a larger religious group. In Christianity religious orders often take special vows, such as for poverty and obedience. This is not the case in the Sea Org. The only "vow" as such is a lifelong commitment to work in the service of the Scientology religion and its goals.

You can find more data on the Sea Organization here:
