The Sea Organization is a religious order within the Scientology religion. A religious order is a subdivision of a larger religious group. In Christianity religious orders often take special vows, such as for poverty and obedience. This is not the case in the Sea Org. The only "vow" as such is a lifelong commitment to work in the service of the Scientology religion and its goals.

I think it's very admirable for anyone to dedicate their lives to their religion. Having working with The Sea Organization as a Scientologist, I'd have to say that they are an awesome organization. Thanks for the post and all the links!
