Scientology – What Got Me Interested
There were several things that got me interested in Scientology, but one of the main ones was that no one shoved their ideas down my throat. I really liked that because from Sunday School to University, it seemed I was supposed to just believe what I was told. What the Bible said was true! What the physics book said was true! I found that no one was very interested in my opinion or in my deciding for myself if what was being said were true or not.
So on the first day of my communications course I read something I didn't believe and I said to the course supervisor, "I can't believe this!" and he said, "That's okay. Make sure you understand it, then apply it and see for yourself if it is true or not." That was a surprise. It was the first time anyone had ever said that to me. That impressed me and in the 30 years since, I have continued to be impressed by the fact that I hear that same sentence again and again.
Recently I was studying the book, "Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought" and I came across this from L. Ron Hubbard:
In Scientology we have very little to do with forcing people to make conclusions. An individual can experience these things [Scientology beliefs] for himself. And unless he can do so, no one expects him to accept them.
That's how we operate in Scientology!

How did you get into Scientology?
Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health was the first book I read on the subject and was what got me interested.

Scientology Video Channel
There is a new video channel on the Scientology web site. You can see videos that tell you all about Scientology: what it is, what Scientologists believe, who Scientologists are, what are they doing for the world and more.
The videos are high quality and in several different languages. Check it out!

Scientology Video Site
Scientology.org has just been transformed into a multi-language video channel with hours of videos about every aspect of the Scientology religion.
These video clips are anywhere from 30 seconds to 6 or 8 minutes long and all together they present such a clear picture of the Scientology religion.
So far, my favorite is the clip of Scientologists talking about Scientology (it's under the section on Beliefs and Practices).
I am thrilled to have something so clear and comprehensive I can send anyone to, to find out about Scientology!

The Discoveries of Dianetics, by L. Ron Hubbard
Here is a quote from the article:
Accumulated physical pain and loss brings about a reduction of consciousness, a reduction of physical health and a reduction of the will to live to a point where the organism actively, if often slyly, seeks death.
Erase or nullify the physical pain, the losses of a lifetime, and vitality returns.
The vitality of living, of seeking higher levels of survival, is life itself.

Scientology Books In Libraries
Problems of Work
Scientology: A New Slant On Life
Self Analysis
Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought
Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health
These are all great beginning books. I've put them into a rough order of how easy they are to read. This is totally a personal estimate, so if anyone thinks the order should be different you can post your own sequence in a comment.

What is Scientology?
The idea that Scientology is an "applied religious philosophy" is sometimes hard for people in the western world to grasp, because the dominant religions in the west are based on belief rather than practical application that leads to a specific result. (Not that there is anything wrong with belief.)
Scientology is a "practical" religion. The knowledge it contains is for use in everyday life. Probably the best place to see this is in the Scientology Handbook, which contains a ton of practical methods that are easy to understand and use. Check it out.
